"With a fresh, direct yet pragmatic approach to design, I think of my work as a magnificent opportunity to choose things from different sources and places and combine them to produce new and unique takes on reality," says Kirk Nix, Principal Design Director at KNA.

His namesake company, KNA, is one of the most highly acclaimed in the industry. Kirk's faithful client base includes Disney, the Venetian in Las Vegas, Meridian Group and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Recent projects include design for the Ritz-Carlton in Mammoth Lakes, the Fairmont Heritage Palace in Acapulco and the Leela Palace in Bangalore, India.

Kirk earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the University of Alabama, and upon graduation, was hired by Stan Topol %26 Associates in Atlanta to work in both residential and commercial design. He went on to Design Continuum, also in Atlanta, where he directed projects for Walt Disney Resorts and other giants in the hospitality industry. Kirk was next recruited by Hirsch Bedner Associates, where he served five years as Design Director on many prestigious projects before establishing his own firm.

Today, Kirk heads a staff of more than 25 professionals on ground-breaking projects throughout the world. He oversees all aspects of design, planning, programming and project development at Kirk Nix Associates. In addition, Kirk is responsible for the initial concept and assembly of specification packages, which include color palette, furniture finishes, art and artifacts. "The work is a culmination of a lifetime of study, observation, and frankly, a great deal of trial and error. There is a certain levity in all we create," Kirk explains. "I feel exceptionally blessed that many of our clients have returned again and again. They tell me they are drawn to my true love of the process of design."

"We take great pride in our work," Kirk says. "I ask that we constantly attempt to infuse our design with a sense of permanence, and also an indigenous quality it should always have a sense of place." & &julia=JULIA GRANT, Principal
